Good Bye 2014 - and Beady Resolutions for 2015. Oh Heck ! My major surprise as well.

First of all ladies..... to a wonderfully prosperous 2015 !           Happy New Years !

I finally had a moment to sit and blog, catch up with everyone as December is still a blur.  There
was so much beading and chainmailling going on, company lunches, family gatherings that I was
unable to sit peacefully and blog.  Additionally the four fur babies were not used to us being home
so much and they were very, " I need a hug Mom! ".    I always like to take a few moments and
think about everything that happened in during the year and that is when I realized...... Wow!  My 2014 was  non-stop.  I moved from my home state of 58 years.....I started a new job......I am getting used to a totally different environment ( laid-back ) compare to the Non Stop " Balls to the Walls"..... of  Florida and Construction.  I do find myself having to step back when doing business here in Western North Carolina,  take a deep breath and quote the following mantra - " It's all good ".

My only sorrow is I miss the beading buddies of Port St. Lucie.  We were a very dynamic group and I do miss that dynamic.  I am blessed that I will still see some of them at the Retreats scheduled for 2015 or I will just drive and drag them up here to enjoy the beauty.

On to beady things....... our 2015 Resolutions.

Mine will encompass the next step in my beadyness.   ( My own word, thank you ).

1.  Becoming highly proficient as a photographer.  I can see evening technical school in my future.
2.  The Website : " Raven's Call Designs ".  I have found the Raven is my personal totem so I am working around this lovely bird.

3.  Learning one new technique each month.
4.  Self Esteem- I really am a very good Bead Embroiderer.  Why do I have issues with that?
5.  Compassion - take it to the next level.
then instill HUMOR....
( For all of those Princess Bride friends ).  Couldn't resist.
6.  Learning to design my own patterns and embroidery designs.

I think that will be a good start to 2015.

We started a new " Beaded Art Doll "  Round Robin - " Mini Beanie Babies " for something fun to do over the holiday's.

Imagine that!  A Cocker Spaniel.  :)   This is my princess and I have a great group of ladies beading on her.

I worked on Aryd'ell's pink pig first and what a divine treasure.  I just love that pig and I did the pig butt!

She stood perfectly straight before I mailed her to the next participant.

I continued to make Skull Bursts and Bird Skulls and have become quite proficient in making my own chains for the pendants.  I you have time visit the Chain Maille Face Book Group.  What a great group of people and such inspiration.  I just love " Jodey Savitt Hathaway"  and have found some great metal treasure's from her.  And of course, my teacher Gen Smith posts all the time.  For Chainers.....it's a treat.  My brother Don is taking up the chaining cause for Wallet Chains ( Harley Rider ).  This could become a family affair.

I finally made the 3-strand Helms Weave in Bright Aluminum.  I always drooled on Sue Harney's
( Mid Southeast Bead Retreat ) 3 strand and I was determined I was making one for myself.  I'll need to do a close up of the weave joints but " It's Mine.....all Mine ".

And finally ordered Square Rings...... Just made the sweetest little Byzantine and I'll photo this weekend along with the Christmas gifts that were made.

Two Embroidery pieces on the board but I will wait to do a sneak peak.  Lot's of Crazy Lace Agate.

And then finally, my surprise ending to 2014:

I had submitted an application to " The Battle of the Beadsmith's 2015 " with the personal understanding that I did not expect to make the cut.  I mean it is a Worldwide Battle of some of the greatest Bead Embroiderers ever known.  Legends actually.

Today's list on Facebook ' The Battle of the Beadsmith " page:  I'm on it.  GULP!

Boy! Have I been slacking....

Here I am telling Valorie Clifton how to bring more activity to her blog and look at me-----slacking.
I really do have a great excuse, " I've been chaining and beading and chaining and beading.  I have so much going the the Grey Matter that I had to use my sisters " Aura Cacia- Grey Matter Batter" in our diffusers.

Getting use to the new job which is not as stressful or strenous as my last position in Florida and they do let me chain or bead at work.  Which is a plus.  There are moments when I miss the Non-Stop to The Walls daily routine but maybe it is meant to be this way.  That means I can focus on Beading and Chain Mailling and it has given me the opportunity to decide I will work on a website and activating my ETSY site as well.  It always reminds me that the Universe guides us on which way to go..... hence,  I actually won another item:

" Weave Got Maille " and the Wednesday Give Aways.  There wonderful Autumn Jump Rings.....
I can already envision what I will make with these.  I'm on a Byzantine Roll right now and Deborah Apodaca and Genny Smith won as well.

Secondly, Valorie was gracious enough to share her " Eye of Sauron " ( Yes....yes... another Tolkein fan ).  Another reason to visit Nix Creations on ETSY.  Not sure how well that will go in Cherokee, NC but what the heck.

Deborah has been sending me items and U-Tube info for working in Word Press. Org to set the site.  I have also been looking at " Square Space ".  Hopefully I can make up my mind in the next two weeks.  I know it will be a lot of work, but it will be worth it.  I have people ask me weekly if I have
a Website after they see me walking through with my work trays.

So chainmaille wise:  Mastered " Double Vision " and " Lovers Knot".  Those mobius's are falling right into place as a left hander.

I've been working with Jodey Savitt Hathaway on her " Skull Burst " kits.  They are so awesome, especially for that " Harley Dude " in your life,  I've been making my own 2 and 2 for my chains and they really work well together.  If you participate on the Chain Maille group on Facebook, you will see us posting back and forth along with Michael Ball and quite a few others.

and now to the Skullbursts.....

Sweet!

Of course I have been Beadweaving and Bead Embroidering as well.  I loved the,, "Coronation Day Pendant" in Beadwork Aug/Sept 2014 by Evelina Palmontova.  Even though I am not a glitzy rope necklace person I had a blast with the Pendants and they set off a ribbon so well.

Worked them up in Purple, Gold/Amber/Pink and Green/Gold.
I played with " Four Corners " by Michelle McEnroe from the Aug/Sept 2013 Beadwork.  As I am not in the typical Florida setting, the more simplified " Four Corners " is cute on a ribbon as well. Attempting to find a happy medium between the Florida Bling and the Simplified Western North Carolina will take up my time over the next two months.  As well as finding some awesome 10mm rounds.  :)

Simply stated.  I should make earrings to go with these.

I have two pieces on the Bead Embroidery Board and two pieces to BE the clasps.  The BE pieces are with cabachon's that I cabbed and I have taken them all the way through to a perfect setting.  They will reveal when they are done.

I recieved my Round Robin doll from the " 2014 Flower Child 2 Round Robin.  Her name is Brigid and the request was for Red, White, Black and Gold to match the polymer face.

She came out lovely.  Beaders for this Round Robin were - Bev Moon - Ruth Osborne - Dian Moore - Suzanne Bang - Aryd'ell Hotelling and myself.  What a great group of ladies.

In closing some family fun - I am the proud rescue parent of Dracula....yes, that is what the original owers called this eight year old Cocker Spaniel.  He was surrendered to FL Cocker Spaniel Rescue and I was lucky enough to get this lovely chap and it must have been meant to be.  They had another rescue member coming to Murphy, NC  ( bless you Wendy Dimick ) and Drac was brought to me.

That is my sister PK and I picking him up in Murphy, NC   He's fitting in nicely with the herd.

I am sure that there is more that could be shared.....as this is Thanksgiving weekend I'll spend time blogging for sure.

Next topic:  " Resolutions for 2015 "  What will be your beady resolutions?

ARRRGHH! Inventory. I hate doing inventory.

Thoughts here ladies !  While preparing for a small show in Franklin, NC " Pumpkin Fest " , next weekend I had to review inventory.  How many pieces were tagged and photographed.  What was still lacking to be placed in inventory and do I have enough product.  Gosh, this really takes away from beading time, chainmaille time, just all kinds of time.

Has anyone developed a system of recording product?   I would love to hear everyones idea's on this.

The luxury of Shibori Silk.

I must say that my first experience with Shibori was with Sherry Serafini's class at Crystal Creations in West Palm Beach.  My first cuff that was completed in class was sold to a dear friend when we met at Chili's for dinner one night.  Well, I just could not let the Shibori Ribbon just sit in the drawer. I finished this one this past weekend and did share with " The Ladies of the Evening " for critiquing. I think I will continue to work in this medium and it has that "quilting" feel to it and yet it is a elegant backround for Bead Embroidery.  Besides, who can resist the use of the LunaSoft cabs.  Yummy!

                                                           " Are you Blue ? "

Wonderful Bead Stash Giveaway......

Valorie Clifton is having a Bead Giveaway.  A Yummy Bead Giveaway.  Not only is she looking to build her blog following ( sound familiar ) but she is looking to find the answer to that impending question we all face.  " Lack of Motivation ".  How do you or I stay motivated and what have we done to motivate outselves on projects?  I know, we all have a ton of UFO ( Unfinished Projects ) where we look and say, " Did I start that last year?  The year before?  Darn, where is the pattern? " and of course there are just mornings where you do not even want to think about picking up a needle or a set of pliers.  But it is a good question and I hope I gave a good answer.

Of course, I shared for you all on Facebook and subscribed to her blog.  Not sure how I missed her blog as she is one of the original  BEAD MAVENS.  But these are my thoughts on how to stay motivated.

1.)  I make myself participate in a beading Round Robin.  It keeps my calendar set and keeps me focused on priorities.  I bead in a Art Doll group and our ladies change at the start of each round robin keeping us fresh with ideas.

The next one will get groans but it keeps me focused and darn do I come up with some great ideas to boot.

2.)  I get up one hour before the household, either 4:00 am or 5:00 am.  Walk the dogs, make the coffee....the SHIZAM......I start working.  When the household leaves I am already in the groove.

So visit her site:
VC Artisan Originals- The Bead Zealot

and leave a few comments yourself.  Who knows, you may be the lucky winner.

Settling in North Carolina.......I've never had two weeks off..... AMAZING!

The Studio is organzied and projects on on the Bead and Chainmaille Boards.  I've never been able to
devote continued work to beading or chaining.  It is " kind of weird".  But I have been completing projects to include the Nutty Byzantine by Genny Smith.  It is standard Byzantine components with 12/32 SS Hex Nuts.

I made a 18" Necklace with a 7" bracelet.  It believe it came out very nice, especially for the " Gear Head " type of group.  Once the weave component was perfected, it wove very nicely.  I am on to
Aurelio's Tuercas Bracelet with SS Hex Nuts.  A very nice bracelet for a guy.

I stopped off at the Cherokee Craft Supply store and found a wonderful Celtic Button.  You know my bezeling addiction.  Wallaah!

I wold love to complete one without the swarovski bicones.  It is a very striking piece and PK had the perfect neck chain to go with it.

Currently finishing my new Shibori Cuff " Are you Blue? " and I'll post new photo's when she is complete.

I cannot say " I am bored".  Nope!  Not going to happen.

The " Move " is done...... and now the FEAR set's in

The move to North Carolina is complete and as I unload the boxes, upon boxes of beads and wonderful adornements and take the two weeks to decompress of leaving not only my Birth State of Florida but realizing, " I do not have a job " after 30 years of working in the Construction Industry. Whew!  Mild moments of panic here.  In thirty five years of my work history I have never collected
Unemployment.  Well, we will see.  The Studio is coming along quite nicely with a work station set for company and enough room to just spread out those numerous projects.  Amazing what trouble one can get into when she can see " All of Her Beads ".

Fall is beginning here.  One of my most favorite times of the year.  As Kinga Nichols has been posting on Facebook, I believe that most of us love this time of the year.  Of course, photo's will
follow.......yeah!  Now where is that camera.  LOL!

I did find out that there is a Beading Group at the Tribal store on Saturday afternoons, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  Guess that is worth a visit this Saturday.

Off Line until the 22nd of September....

To all my Beady Buddies.......

Forgive my tardiness in posts but I will be offline until the 22nd of September while I move from Port St. Lucie FL to Whittier, North Carolina.  Almost packed and all items are taken care of.....but posting will be limited while the new studio is set up in the lovely mountains outside of Cherokee and Bryson City.

Catch up with you soon........

The Cousins Got Together

And now that I recall,
I forgot to mention that the Anne Hess Grandchildren got together this past month for a photograph and we
have a few others that will be joining them for a new group photograph!

Oh My! A chance to decompress.......

I must tell you!  It has been non-stop between beading, chain mailling and preparing for vacation by heading home to North Carolina and spending time with family.  Not that I am not beading mind you.  Actually I finally completed Heather Collins " Hindia " with earrings and now just have to locate the chain and wire guards to complete the entire piece.  It's only been a year and a half on the bottom of the tray completion.

Decompress.....today I am in a Big Floppy T-Shirt and pajama bottoms.  My Goddess " Brianna Grace "
is enjoying spending so much time with her Mom and her two cousins, Farley and Maggie.
As my Florida friends know, I come here to the Qualla Boundry of the Cherokee Rez to spend time with family and enjoy friends and find my Rock in the middle of the Nantahala where I sit and listen to the water run by and enjoy watching the rafters go by.  Yep.......almost back to normal.  And Bree has been running all over the property enjoying being a dog and not restricted to a condo.  I finally learned how to can " Strawberry Jam " with my sister.  Yes mam, we canned six large quarts and a seventh in the fridge for enjoyment after finding the last five trays of Strawberries in the area.  Thursday night..... Apple Butter. Amazing how homesteady you get when you go home, not that I havent had to log in and work, but I am
feeling the shoulders relax....

I'll try to catch everyone up with finished projects, projects on the board and future projects.  Like I said, Hindia is almost complete.  I love the colorway on this and would like to try and extended necklace with this pattern.  The components are well documented on Heathers pattern but boy does it take careful planning and threadpath on joining the components.
Let see... what else.  Well, we learned to do the Celtic Star at our gathering of the " Ladies of the Evening " and learned that the Crystallettes were 5mm instead of 3mm.  I did two components...thank you Genny.
And the lovely Carolyn Bown actually joined us from Orlando for this get together.  I then visited Genny and
Carolyn on Saturday and Genny spent hours with Carolyn and I teaching us how to order our own rings from her patterns or other patterns from " The Ring Lord", C&T and others instead of worrying about cutting our own rings.  I am so looking forward to the new Chainmaille classes starting in the Fall with the St. Lucie Rock and Gem.

I finally finished another Bead Embroidery piece that I had started from a Blog Hop partner " Marlene Cupo " the polymer artist.  I've name it " Visions of Christmas Past ".
Marlene Cupo Blog is located at http://amazingdesigns-marlene.blogspot.com/
and our exchange was blogged: http://www.catherines-musings.blogspot.com/2012/12/a-tiny-reveal-from-holiday-bling-blog.html.  I'll have to send Marlene a Facebook message for this one.

and yes.....that is Chenille Stitch on the rope.
I do hope I have given these Polymer Cabs due justice.  Now, where would I wear this?

Of course the Beaded Art Doll Round Robins have been going strong.  The latest group is the Flower Child Round Robin and I finally get a chance to bead with Beverly Moon from our Mid South Bead Retreat Group.  I was the first to bead on her doll " Iris ":

As our forms are a true 6" our sections are smaller than normal but she really did come together.  Now when I get back we are going to bead the Outlander Dolls in honor of " The Outlander " by Diana Galbadon and its premier on Starz in August.  80% of the Ladies of the Evening are die hard Outlander fans and have read all the books.  We even snagged Anne Hess as a Outlander follower.

A few other new pieces that were completed:
A lovely little piece for Jennifer, my daughter in law to be....
I finally had the opportunity to work with the O Beads ( Copper ) and I had fun with this piece.  Simple but not so.

I am finishing up her earrings now and then will mail them for her Birthday.  I just love the Luna Soft effect.
Finished another "Treasured Trellis " pattern by Jaycee Carlos in Turquoise and Silver and I have another one laid out.

I ended up having to remove one component after putting this together.  I just swam on my wrist.  I'll have to pay attention on the new one.
Hummm!  Let see!
a new " Victorian Element "....in pink.  Any chance to play with a 27mm Rivoli and I am game.
Lots of new earrings, lots of fun new " My Own " patterns in twin and SuperDuo's.  Fun Stuff!

But I have concluded I need to take a class on Digital Photography to take the photo's to the next level and
I need to actually sit and compile a real " Portfolio " to carry with me.  When I try to explain " Bead Embroidery " to anyone who is not familiar with it and mention my Divine Muses of Sherry Serafini, Heidi Kummili and others I get " Oh Beaded Bracelets? ".    Yep, Portfolio!

Off to the rock and I'll keep you updated during the decompression.

Peace Out!

Pine Ridge Treasures " Ocean Blog Hop- June 14th Second Reveal "

It is that time again for another wonderful reveal hosted by Lisa Lodge of Pine Ridge Treasures.  If you have followed are wonderful Blog Hops you know that our Hostess, Lisa Lodge continually stimulates us with wonderful new beads and treasures like " Znets Cultured Sea Glass " and other odds and ends and this Ocean Hop gave us opportunities to " go where we do not usually go".  We have some wonderful participants for this Blog Hop ( hint: Chris Eisenberg and Toltec Jewels )  and I hope you will visit each participants Blog and make our day...... " leave a comment ".

http://gratefulartist.blogspot.com/

June 14th Reveal:
Your hostess: Lisa Lodge, A Grateful Artist
Carolyn Lawson, Carolyn's Creations
Ev Shelby, Raindrop Creations
Toltec Jewels, Jewel School Friends
Karla Morgan, Texas Pepper Jams
Ema Kilroy, Ema K Designs
Candida Elkins Castleberry, Spun Sugar Beadworks
Catherine Yvonne King, Catherine's Musings
Melissa Trudinger, Bead Recipes
Shaiha Williams, Shaiha's Ramblings
Chris Eisenberg, Wanderware
Eleanor Burian Moore, The Charmed Life
Kay Thomerson, Kayz Kreationz

As always, thank you Lisa for keeping us stimulated and just darn stumped at times.

As you know, stringing is not my forte,  I am a Bead Embroiderer and Bead Weaver so as I looked at my " goodie " bag from Lisa.  I was stumped and during May.....really stumped.  My little goody bag was in a colorway that I usually do not associate with Ocean colors.  Floridian here.  Looked at a little embroidery, " Nope ".  Hum!  What to do.

With the colors recieved and components recieved it was going to have some wire wrapping
( which I am a little weak in )......out came the copper wire and it started coming together.

The first piece was a wrapped and strung necklace:
I am in love with the Cultured Seaglass shells.  And one could not have a necklace without a
bracelet.... on a roll with wrapping leather bracelets, this one came together nicely:

Then of course a lovely set of earrings.  The starfish were wonderful to work with and the cultured seaglass just fit right in.

I think I will be visiting ZNet for more Cultured Sea Glass.  Being a Floridian has me looking at working with the colors of the Ocean with these components.

I would like to thank Lisa for choosing such a wonderful theme with this blog hop.  We need to spend time thinking about the health of our Oceans and the abundant life it holds.  We would be a poorer World without the diversity of sea life and water.

Now, join me in Hopping through our participants and don't forget the First Reveal group which is accessible from Lisa's page.  First link above.
